The symposium provided an opportunity to understand the basic concepts of semantic
communication and how such systems can be used to secure data transmission. We had
extensive discussions on the security of semantic communication and explained them as
relatively sparse, especially regarding the robustness of these systems against attacks
targeting the semantic content of the data. We demonstrated our research which tried to
fill this gap by investigating the security of semantic communication systems under
realistic threat scenarios.
We further demonstrated our basic findings on semantic based secure data
transmission with emulators, and participants got some hands-on experience of designing
such systems and engaged with several researchers from the multimedia communications
research group to explore these technologies. The experienced participants gained not
only underscore the significance of semantic security but also will pave the way for the
development of more secure and resilient communication frameworks in the future for
multiple applications.
